The St. Charles Imperial Dance Club began in 1984 when a group of 35 members of the St. Louis Imperial Dance Club decided that there were enough St. Charles people involved in swing dancing to form their own club. That idea has grown to a viable club of over 300 members.

We are one of eight clubs in the St. Louis and Metro East areas to include the Lake of the Ozarks which are connected through an umbrella organization called the Midwest Swing Dance Federation. All clubs offer each others' members reciprocity. SCIDC is also a member of a national organization called the American Bop Association connecting similar dance style clubs from across the country.

We and our sister clubs are not-for-profit organizations, incorporated by the state wherein we reside. The St. Charles Imperial Dance Club is governed by an elected board of directors consisting of six officers and six members-at-large.
